Yair Fishing

Yair fishing was a long established method of netting salmon in the tidal reaches of the river. The netsman sat or stood on the wooden yair holding a frame strung with a purse net and, when he felt the bump of the fish in the net, he raised the frame so trapping the salmon. No nets now fish the river.
