Postcard Views of Kirkcudbright and Surrounds
A popular hobby at the beginning of the 20th Century was collecting picture postcard views. Thankfully many of these collections survive and are now a valuable source of information for the historian.
I have collected together well over 100 postcard views of Kirkcudbright and the immediate neighbourhood which can be browsed using the links below. For convenience I have gathered them into four general categories.
The river and its harbour formed the nucleus of the town and both their beauty and bustle attracted many postcard views.
Postcards of street views and of places and attractions in the town each have their own collection.
My thanks for access to his extensive collection of postcards goes to David Collin, Sandside, Kirkcudbright, and also for his invaluable help in compiling many of the descriptive notes accompanying the views.
